Cape Lookout on a grey morning

Five miles round trip to the point, mostly muddy roots, and whales close enough to hear.

The trail runs along the spine of the cape to a viewpoint with drop-offs on three sides. Fog sat on the water all morning, which made the grey whales easier to hear than to see.

Roots are slick even in August. Shoes with a decent lug pattern matter more than waterproofing here.
